Since I was a young child, one thing I have always wanted to see from the Pokemon franchise is a massive, main series game on a home console. Now, in 2019, I am 23 years old and finally my wish has been granted, with Pokemon Sword & Shield on Nintendo Switch. And I am happy to say that, despite a lot of valid controversy, this game does not disappoint, and is a welcome addition to the Pokemon franchise and a big step for it as well.
E3 2019 is right around the corner. This is always one of the most exciting times of the year for me, because this is where we’ll get to see all the new games that will be coming from all the major companies and developers! One of the biggest companies to announce a bunch of new games every year is Nintendo. So here, as I like to do every year, I will be predicting what will Nintendo games will be shown in their annual E3 Direct.
Today, we got the long-awaited announcement of the 8th generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield! For the first time, a true, new generation Pokemon RPG will finally be released on a home console! This is an announcement that got me especially excited since this game has been what I have wanted ever since I was a child playing Pokemon Emerald for the first time.
Last night was the night myself and pretty much every other film lover looks forward to every year, the Academy Awards. We complain about many of the decisions made by the Academy, but there’s no denying is still the most prestigious prize to be given in the art of film. This year, they went the first time in a while without a host… and I kind of hope they go without a host more often, because this was probably the most focused Academy Awards ceremony I’ve ever seen. Politics aside, this was a great ceremony.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is a film that I’ve been waiting for since the first movie released. I found the first film to be one of the most imaginative animated films ever. I simply adored it. And upon seeing the sequel, it’s great to see that witty writing and imaginative storytelling again, even if the film doesn’t really feel as groundbreaking as the original.
This week, Disney gave us our first look at the sequel to the highest grossing film of all time, Frozen. To clarify, I am not the biggest fan of Frozen. I think the original film is way too overhyped, and undeservingly so, and the short films they made in the franchise were just awful. This, however, looks like it can potentially be something truly special.
A couple of days ago we finally got another Nintendo Direct, after waiting since September for one. We were all incredibly hyped, and some rumors that were going around definitely only made things more exciting. But a lot of people wound up being disappointed with it. While I completely see the disappointment, don’t get so hyped and believe all these bogus rumors. Of course you will be disappointed! As for me, I thought it was pretty good. Probably a 7.5/10 if I were to grade this.
Steven Universe season 5 just recently ended with the amazing season finale, Change Your Mind. The minds of Steven Universe fans were collectively blown countless times throughout this season. As we anxiously wait for season 6 and Steven Universe: The Movie, now is the perfect time to discuss what is by far the biggest, most epic season in the series’ history. Note, there will be spoilers for both prior seasons and this season. So if you’re not caught up, consider yourselves warned.
When I first heard the announcement of this movie a few years back, I was intrigued. An animated Spider-Man film with the great Phil Lord and Chris Miller serving as producers and co-writers is a combination you simply cannot go wrong with. However, I did not expect a film with the level of inventiveness that this film has. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is unlike anything I have ever seen before and is easily my pick for the best film of 2018.
